About This Location

Opened 1872 on the Upper East Side. In one of the show's most direct depictions of racial prejudice, a shop assistant follows Peggy through the aisles — surveilling her as a suspected shoplifter simply because she is Black, despite her obvious refinement and means. The scene captures the daily indignities Black Americans navigated even in upscale spaces during the Gilded Age. Filmed using the Cannon Building in Troy, NY.

Bloomingdale's flagship store still stands at 59th St & Lexington Ave (moved one block east from original). It remains one of New York's iconic department stores.

Historical address of original Bloomingdale's well-documented. Filming used Cannon Building, Troy, NY.
