About This Location

Before the Brooklyn Bridge opened in May 1883, the Fulton Ferry was how Peggy Scott crossed between her Brooklyn home and Manhattan. Running since 1642, it was the busiest river crossing in America. The ferry ceased regular service in 1924 after the bridge made it obsolete.

The Fulton Ferry Landing still exists as a small park at the base of the Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The area is now a popular waterfront destination with restaurants and stunning views of the Manhattan skyline.

The Fulton Ferry was the primary Brooklyn–Manhattan crossing before the Brooklyn Bridge opened in 1883. Landing at the foot of Fulton Street, Brooklyn — precise historical location.
