About This Location
The most exclusive gentlemen's club in New York. George Russell and other financiers conduct deals here. Dissatisfied members later broke away to found the Knickerbocker and Metropolitan clubs.
The Union Club still exists, now at 101 East 69th St (since 1933) — still one of New York's most exclusive private clubs, still going strong after nearly 200 years.
Club founded 1836 near Madison Square. Moved progressively uptown; 1880s location approximate.
