About This Location
The original 1871 Grand Central Depot was built by Cornelius 'Commodore' Vanderbilt — the railroad tycoon who is the primary real-world model for the show's fictional George Russell. Vanderbilt consolidated three rail lines into one terminal here, creating the hub of his empire. Russell's railroad battles in the show directly mirror the Commodore's ruthless consolidation of New York's rail network. The Depot was replaced by the current Grand Central Terminal in 1913.
Grand Central Terminal (1913) — one of the world's great train stations and a beloved NYC landmark — stands on the same site and is fully operational.
